University student wows onlookers with traditional Chinese fire-breathing performance
A university student wowed onlookers with the traditional Chinese fire-breathing performance in eastern China.
Impressive video, filmed in the city of Yantai in Shandong Province on September 9 shows a young performer outside a campus apartment building, captivating the crowd as he masterfully breathes out bright flames during his act.
In a particularly gripping moment, the brave student even placed the burning prop in his mouth for several seconds, eliciting gasps and screams from the awe-struck onlookers.
The performer has been identified as Yan Tong, a sophomore dance major at Nanshan College. Yan revealed his lifelong passion for the face-changing art of the Sichuan opera. The fire-breathing, he explained, is a part of the entire act. He aspires to keep this intangible cultural heritage alive for future generations.
Yan's journey into this unique art form began in childhood when he chanced upon a face-changing performance. Captivated, he persuaded his family to let him travel to Chengdu City in Sichuan Province to learn the craft from a master.
With over a decade of practice under his belt, Yan continues to perfect his fire-breathing skills, always ensuring he practices in safe locations on campus.
The video was provided by local media with permission.
