A heartbroken man threw cash in the air after selling gold intended for his ex-girlfriend in southern China.

Video filmed in Huizhou City in Guangdong Province on September 10, shows a man emerging from a jewellery store and unexpectedly hurling a wad of cash into the air.

The jewellery store owner shed light on the man's unusual actions. Dejected from a recent breakup with his girlfriend, the man sold the gold he had originally bought for her, exchanging it for over 15,000 yuan (£1,650) in cash.

In his emotional state, he perceived the money as worthless and, in a moment of distress, decided to discard it all. While bystanders helped collect the money, the heartbroken individual went on to scatter the cash elsewhere.

It was only when family members arrived at the scene that they managed to halt his actions. In a twist to the story, the store owner revealed that the man's family returned the next day to redeem the gold.
