Artist makes pictures from string threaded across electric fan cover
An artist makes pictures from string threaded across discarded electric fan covers.
Timelapse footage shows Caster Throi Plantilla diligently weaving black denim strings on the appliance's outer frame until the image of a man - singer and businessman Jose Mari Chan - slowly emerged in Manila, the Philippines on September 2.
Caster Throi used materials for the unique piece that he either found at home or collected from neighbourhood bins.
His first electric fan thread art depicted South Korean girl group member Jennie Kim in 2021 when he had the technique using fan covers registered under the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.
Many contemporary artists have incorporated sustainability into their work, such as American Justin Brice Guariglia, who uses recycled materials for his art installations, and British Anya Gallaccio, who makes pieces using flowers, plants, and water.
Taiwanese Ming Ju uses wood, metal, and rock for his sculptures that have been exhibited in museums worldwide.
