This is the worrying moment drunk wild monkeys were caught swigging from cans of beer in Thailand.

The primates had stolen the alcohol from Pichet Thitisuwat's icebox while he was fishing on an island in Chonburi province on August 24.

Footage shows the thirsty animals greedily emptying the cans into the jaws and gulping down the booze as Pichet and other onlookers stood from afar.

One of the monkeys was even slumped against tree trunk - just like a sozzled human would be.

Pichet said: 'I had gone fishing and then stopped at the island to eat lunch. We put the beer in an icebox and went down to the sea to catch squid, but when we returned, we found that the monkeys had stolen the cans and drank them.

'No one dared to take the beer back. The monkeys were hostile and thought we were stealing their food so we just sat and watched them.'

Wild monkeys in Thailand have become more aggressive in recent years due to tourists feeding them. This has led to a number of incidents, including monkeys biting people and stealing their belongings.

Macaques are the most common type of monkey in the country.
