Woman swims through flooded street as Hurricane Idalia hits Florida

A woman has gone viral after sharing footage of the moment she swam through flood waters during Hurricane Idalia.

Florida native, Lexi DeLeon, 23, has been in the state while the storm has been ongoing and decided to swim through the flood on August 30 at 4:45 am.

The video has gone viral on TikTok, garnering over 1.2 million views.

“Being born and raised here, I have been through several hurricanes and storms but this is the first one that has caused this much damage and flooding,” she told NeedToKnow.co.uk.

“This was truly 'the perfect storm'.

In the clip, she can be seen swimming through the water which has flooded streets.

Around her, bins, debris, and furniture can be seen floating.

The short clip has gained over 52,000 likes and thousands of followers' comments.

One person commented: “I’m praying for you thru this tragedy!” [sic]

Someone else said: “Stay out of the water and wash your hands a lot! Hugs from Pensacola.”

Jess added: “Last year during Ian we had dead animals floating through the flood water….”

Another follower wrote: “Seminole county here- be careful in that water!!!”

“Forget the animals and crocodiles and alligators watch for power lines down cause you’re gonna get electrocuted,” wrote Jade.

“Be careful with snakes and gators,” said Sabyan.

“So sorry, be safe,” added Sheila.

“Please be careful and safe prayers for Florida,” commented Lisa.

“The storm makes me feel scared and sad for everyone affected,” said the 23-year-old content creator.

“My house personally is OK thankfully, but I have friends and family who have significant flooding throughout their homes.

“My van is OK as well, I was prepared and got it secured down and parked at a higher elevation at my grandpa’s house off the island.

“I want to say how blessed, lucky, and grateful we are that we only got the damage that we did.

“I am praying and thinking of all the counties above that are not so lucky.”
