A woman attempted to smuggle 15 live snakes, four giant centipedes, and one lizard into China from Hong Kong by hiding them in her bra and pockets.

The incident occurred in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China, although the date is undisclosed.

Customs agents became suspicious due to her unusual walking posture and nervous behavior, leading to a body search. The search revealed nine king snakes, six hog-nosed snakes, four Peruvian giant centipedes, and a lizard hidden on her person. These exotic animals were confiscated and handed over to the authorities. The woman, identified as Chen, admitted to buying these animals in Hong Kong for resale in her pet shop in Foshan, Guangdong Province. She had engaged in similar smuggling activities before, as these exotic species are in high demand in China for their ornamental and medicinal value.

Despite some of these animals being highly venomous, the legal consequences for Chen were not specified by the Customs Department. Chinese law mandates quarantine and inspection of animals entering or leaving the country to prevent invasive species and ensure ecological security.
