Three Colombians have been arrested over three burglaries at luxury homes in Thailand.

Suspected thieves Alexandro Giovani Cuellar Pulido, Henrry Yeferzon Delgado Bogota, and Maricela Cifuentes Hernandez had allegedly been raiding affluent homes in Samut Prakan on the Bangkok outskirts before they were caught by police in Pathum Thani on September 6.

The Mueang Samut Prakan Police Station held a press conference on September 8 to announce the arrests.

Police Major General Panlop Araemlar, commander of the Samut Prakan Provincial Police, said: 'This action was taken in response to a report filed on August 29 at 10:45 PM that a burglary had occurred at house in Samut Prakan.'

Officers had found that the bedroom on the second floor had been ransacked and a safe had been forcibly opened.

They said the homeowner suffered 'substantial losses' including 200,000 baht in cash, 500 US dollars, 50,000 rupees, as well as various accessories such as gold necklaces, gold rings, a jewel pendant, and a 500,000 baht jewel necklace measuring 1 foot in length.

Police Major General Panlop said: 'Upon reviewing surveillance camera footage within the village, it was discovered that the suspects had previously broken into another house, before targeting the house in question.'

On September 2, the suspects were reported to have broken into two more houses within the jurisdiction of the Bangkaew Police in Samut Prakan.

Police launched a joint investigation that led to the Colombian nationals, who were found to be living in a rented house in Chonburi province.

Officers said the suspects regularly travelled from Chonburi to Samut Prakan and nearby provinces to conduct the burglaries. They were arrested on September 6, just before they could ransack another house in Pathum Thani province.

Cops have confiscated from them several items, including a Toyota Vios car, two license plates, lockpicking equipment, masks, 32,700 baht in cash, banknotes in various currencies, and over 100 other items.

The alleged thieves have been then transported to the Mueang Samut Prakan Police Station to undergo further legal proceedings.
