Heroic man dives 8-metres to save drowning girl in China
A heroic man dived 8-metres to save a drowning girl in southern China.
The video was filmed in Qingyuan City in Guangdong Province on September 11.
A 7-year-old girl, who was walking to school with her brother and grandmother, accidentally fell into a river due to the slippery road conditions after days of rainfall.
Passersby reacted swiftly - some shouted loudly for help, while others reached for their phones to dial the emergency number. Luo Jinzhi, who was having breakfast nearby, heard the frantic cries and immediately ran to the riverbank.
Upon seeing the young girl, he said his first instinct was: "I have to save her." Without hesitation, and abandoning his phone, Luo leapt from the approximately 8-metre-high riverbank, swimming determinedly towards the distressed child. When he reached her, he grabbed her, instructing her to cling to his neck, reassuring her not to be afraid.
Within a few tense minutes, the girl was brought safely to the shore, where locals united, pulling her up to the riverbank using ropes. An eyewitness, Ms Lei, said, "Seeing the girl safe and sound, the weight in my heart was finally lifted." The crowd couldn't contain their joy, cheering loudly and praising Luo Jinzhi's selfless bravery.
When asked about his heroic act, Luo Jinzhi humbly responded, "It's really not a big deal. I know how to swim. Saving the child was the most important thing."
The young girl was immediately rushed to the hospital. Thankfully, medical checks revealed no major harm. It was reported that her grateful parents visited Luo Jinzhi to express their heartfelt thanks. Luo Jinzhi added, "The little girl is fine now. Seeing her safe and sound makes me incredibly happy."
