Heavy rains left village roads submerged in gushing floods in northern Thailand.

Torrential downpours battered homes in Ban Mae Ka Huai Kian village in Phayao province overnight on September 13, spawning floods that covered neighbourhood streets.

Footage shows homes swamped in the muddy deluge following the monsoon storm.

The rapidly rising waters had sparked evacuations as residents scrambled to save what they could of their belongings.

Rescue teams had also assisted in transporting the locals to safety as authorities warned of more rain continuing to hit the region.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
