Runaway tyre hits BMW after falling from truck on Chinese highway
A runaway tyre hit a BMW after falling from a truck on a highway in eastern China.
CCTV footage filmed in the city of Shaoxing in Zhejiang Province on August 18 shows a tyre falling off a transport truck and bouncing onto the opposite lane, crashing into a BMW.
The BMW then lost power and came to a halt, spanning across both the first and second lanes.
By the time highway police arrived, they found severe damage to the top of the BMW, rendering it unstartable. Both the driver and passengers of the BMW sustained varying degrees of minor injuries.
With the assistance of ambulances, the injured were swiftly attended to. The police officer named Chen Guangjun, with the help of a kind-hearted passerby driver, managed to push the damaged BMW to the emergency lane, promptly clearing the road and preventing any secondary accidents.
Upon interrogation, the truck driver admitted his negligence in securing the forklift's tyre properly, which came loose during transit, leading to the accident.
Thankfully, after receiving medical treatment at the hospital, the BMW's occupants are now in stable condition without any significant complications.
The authorities fined the truck driver 200 yuan (£22) for the violation of "dropping and scattering loaded goods while driving a motor vehicle". The driver was held entirely responsible for the accident.
