Smoke clouds were seen over Taal Volcano in the Philippines amid heightened seismic activity.

Footage shows billowing white plumes hanging over the volcano and the surrounding lake in Batangas province on September 14.

State seismological agency PHIVOLCS said there were no volcanic earthquakes recorded, but reported there were 'moderate emissions' of plumes up to 900 metres tall as the volcano expelled 2485 tonnes of sulfur dioxide.

Local authorities have recently had to cancel classes as volcanic smog drifted towards nearby cities.

Taal Volcano is still under Alert Level 1 which means there is 'low-level unrest' occurring.

The Philippines is an archipelago of more than 7,000 islands inside the Pacific 'Ring of Fire' where the majority of Earth's volcano eruptions and earthquakes happen.
