Taal Volcano belched thick gas as it rumbled with activity in the Philippines on Friday.

Footage shows clouds of volcanic gas hovering over the Taal Volcano island, sparking concern among locals in Batangas province on September 15.

State seismological agency PHIVOLCS said in a September 15 bulletin that it had recorded four volcanic earthquakes and 'voluminous emissions', with plumes reaching 2,400 metres tall.

Local authorities have recently had to cancel classes as volcanic smog drifted towards nearby cities.

Taal Volcano is still under Alert Level 1 which means there is 'low-level unrest' occurring.

The Philippines is an archipelago of more than 7,000 islands inside the Pacific 'Ring of Fire' where the majority of Earth's volcano eruptions and earthquakes happen.
