"Just another pre-breakfast cardio workout. You might think, no big deal. But today I'm inside the Hangzhou Asian Games Village, jogging on a 2.3-km running track up in the air."

Located on the south bank of the Qiantang River, the Hangzhou Asian Games Village is the largest non-competition venue for the Games.

It is a green wonderland with a mix of plants and eco-friendly buildings to create a cozy and comfy hub for athletes, tech pros, and media practitioners.

STANDUP 2 (English): YU JIAMING, Xinhua correspondent
"In line with the Games' ethos of being 'green, smart, economical, and ethical,' green technologies take center stage at this remarkable village. As I step off the blue running track, a slew of green innovations unfold in front of me."

STANDUP 3 (English): YU JIAMING, Xinhua correspondent
"Strolling around the beautiful village, you might notice a little something missing. You're right, inside the village, one can hardly find any manhole cover, all thanks to its embrace of the innovative 'sponge city' concept."

The "sponge city" is a novel approach to urban stormwater management, allowing cities to act like giant sponges by efficiently soaking up, storing, infiltrating, and purifying rainwater. When needed, the stored water is utilized, making sure rainwater flows freely throughout the city.

In a history-making move, the Hangzhou Asian Games aims to power all its venues with green electricity, including this village.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): CHEN RONG, Director, Division of Venue Construction Management, Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee
"Until the end of the Hangzhou Asian Para Games, all venues will be powered by green electricity during the competitions. The trading volume of green electricity has reached 220 million kilowatt-hours, which is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 115,400 tonnes."

SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): ZHANG WEIFENG, Deputy chief of Electricity Guarantee and Coordination Office of State Grid Hangzhou Power Supply Company
"Green electricity used in the Hangzhou Asian Games mainly include solar power from Qinghai and wind power from Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia. The electricity is transmitted to Zhejiang through the West-to-East ultra-high voltage power lines. Within Zhejiang Province, several photovoltaic power stations have also participated in the Asian Games green electricity trading, with a trading volume of about 10.6 million kilowatt-hours."

STANDUP 4 (English): YU JIAMING, Xinhua correspondent
"Green transportation is another innovative green attempt at the village. The Asian Games Village has rolled out a cutting-edge multi-level public transportation system encompassing railway and trunk and branch bus routes, among others."

During the Games, the village will have 100 green shuttle buses and a service team of over 220 people.

The Hangzhou Asian Games Village covers an area of 1.13 million square meters, consisting of the Athletes' Village, Technical Officials' Village, and Media Village. It will serve the most individuals during the Games.
