STORYLINE:
Tunisia's tourism sector is booming with a remarkable 62.4 percent surge in foreign tourist arrivals during the first eight months of this year, the Ministry of Tourism said on Friday.
According to the ministry, in the period of January to August this year, the total number of tourists reached 6.23 million.
This remarkable growth can be attributed to a substantial increase in French tourists (up 23 percent), German tourists (up 66.3 percent), Italian tourists (up 25.9 percent), and Swiss tourists (up 23.7 percent) compared to the same period in 2022.
Furthermore, there has been a significant rise in Libyan tourists (up 26.5 percent) and a staggering 410.2 percent increase in Algerian tourists compared to the previous year, according to the ministry.
Tunisia's tourism revenues recorded an increase of 47.2 percent year on year during the same period.
Tourism is Tunisia's main industry, contributing significantly to foreign exchange earnings and providing a substantial number of employment opportunities.
