STORYLINE:

A Chinese-funded project for the Angkomnob Primary School about 40 km south of Cambodia's capital Phnom Penh has brought smiles and hope to local children.

Funded by the China Foundation for Peace and Development, the project has enabled the construction of a two-floor concrete building with 12 classrooms.

The project also provided full-set school kits to students in need.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Khmer): SAN SREYNEANG, Student at the Angkomnob Primary School
"I'm very happy that they have provided this new building to us. It is beautiful and when there is rain, there is no leak through the roof like before.
The classrooms have been equipped with electricity, ceiling fans, desks and chairs, while the courtyard is beautiful with gardens.
My studies are going well, and they serve as a motivation for me to study. I'm very happy."

SOUNDBITE 2 (Khmer): SOCH NIZA, Student at the Angkomnob Primary School
"I really thank the Chinese people for providing us with a new school building and learning materials as well as helping develop our village. Thank you."

SOUNDBITE 3 (Khmer): NGET SAM OEUN, Principal of the Angkomnob Primary School
"The Chinese foundation-backed project at our school has changed the situation of students here. Previously, they came to school without water bottles, lunch boxes and proper schoolbags.
Now, all students have enough school supplies and have kept good hygiene with water bottles, lunch boxes and schoolbags, and the poorest students have bicycles to ride to and from school.
Overall, our school has seen remarkable development, and our students have greatly benefited from this assistance."
