Terrifying blaze engulfs iconic skyscraper in Khartoum amid Sudan conflict
Violent clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continued for the second day last Sunday (September 17) around the headquarters of the Sudanese army's General Command.
Video clips posted on social media platforms and verified by Xinhua showed fire engulfing government headquarters and buildings west of the army's General Command in central Khartoum.
The video clips showed the fire engulfing the tower of the Greater Nile Petroleum Operating Company, one of the biggest oil companies in Sudan.
The videos also showed the fire engulfing the building of the Sudanese Authority for Specifications and Measurements as well as the tower of the Sudanese Ministry of Justice in Khartoum.
The RSF accused in a statement on Sunday the SAF of bombarding the government's buildings and headquarters.
"The Sudanese army's warplanes continue deliberate bombardment of the infrastructures and vital utilities in Khartoum with the aim to destroy them," the RSF said in the statement.
Sudan has been witnessing deadly clashes between the SAF and the RSF in Khartoum and other areas since April 15, which left over 3,000 people killed and more than 6,000 injured, according to the Sudanese Health Ministry.
