This is the amusing moment three pet guard dogs were pushed back by a slithering snake in a family's garden.

CCTV footage shows the cowardly trio standing beside each other and barking while they slowly retreated from a 5ft-long rat snake that was bullying them in Bangkok, Thailand, on September 12.

The Thai Ridgeback dogs walked around 15ft back before one of them - the smallest black and white mutt name Dang - barked at the reptile. His friends Dam and Tor Lae then left him on his own.

When the animal coiled motionless in the middle of the walkway, Dam made a feeble lunge but it fought back so they kept a distance from it until their owner discovered what was happening.

Dogs and snakes are natural enemies. Canines have a strong sense of smell and sight, which helps them to track and hunt snakes. On the other hand, snakes have venom, which they can use to defend themselves from predators.
