Kurdish Iranian Jina Mahsa Amini was arrested in Tehran, Iran for not wearing her hijab properly. She was allegedly beaten and fell into coma at the police station before dying a few days later. Her death sparked outrage in the Kurdish region of Iran before the demonstrations spread all across Iran, seriouly threatening the stability of the Islamic republic. Women and young Iranians demanded the downfall of the regime as well as democratic, feminist rights including the abolition of mandatory hijab in the country. Government repression cost the lives of dozens. On the anniversary of Jina's martyrdom, Paris municipality changed the name of a public park in honor of Jina Mahsa Amini. In Paris, the ceremony gathered several french politicians as well as Iranian opposition groups and Kurdish representatives either from Iran or from other Kurdish parts of the Middle East. The park is located in the center of Paris near gare de l'est.
