Desperate villagers occupied two of the three lanes on a road to dry freshly harvested corn in central China.

Video filmed in Luohe City in Henan Province on September 17, shows villagers taking over two out of the three lanes on a road to sun-dry their fresh corn, creating a perilous situation for oncoming traffic.

Responding to the uproar, Luohe's Yuanhui District Transportation Bureau was quick to intervene. Officials commented that they would urge villagers to free up as much road space as possible.

Since it is the peak of the autumn harvest season and the road seems to be the prime spot to dry the freshly separated corn kernels, many villagers find their home yards insufficient and, in some instances, not sunny enough to properly dry the produce.

It often takes days to dry grains in shaded yards. In contrast, the expansive and sun-baked tarmac of the nearby road can do the job in just a day. As a result, many are lured by the convenience of using the road for drying.
