This is the heartwarming moment locals used an excavator to save a stranded dog during floods in the Philippines.

Rescuer Armando Banaag rode the excavator's bucket to reach the dog, which was sitting on a pile of rubbish in the middle of the raging river filled with debris in Zambales province on July 30.

Footage shows the rescuer carefully lifting the dog to safety, holding it on by the neck, and successfully removing it from danger.

Locals took care of the pooch before it was reunited with the owner, who said the dog had been washed away by deluge.

The Philippines and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
