Thousands of frenzied shoppers clamoured for limited edition Pop Mart toys on the shop's opening day in Bangkok, Thailand.

Crowds of excited customers had been waiting since the early hours of the morning in front of the store at the CentralWorld shopping mall as the popular Chinese toy manufacturer opened its first brick-and-mortar branch in the country.

Chaotic footage shows impatient locals breaking through barricades and sprinting under security tape to run towards the building before opening hours.

Local media reported that 140 limited edition items worth 6,990 THB (193 USD) were up for grabs, but customers first had to purchase 10,000 THB (276 USD) of products to be eligible to buy them.

The CentralWorld branch was opened through a joint venture with Thai company Minor International Public Company Limited.

Before the physical shop was opened, Thai toy fanatics had to buy Pop Mart toys via online shopping apps.

A second branch is set to open at the Terminal 21 Asoke mall in Bangkok. The company said it planned to expand throughout the capital city first before venturing to other areas in Thailand.

Pop Mart from China gained popularity for selling 'designer' collectible toys that are sold in mystery 'blind boxes' that conceal the figures inside.
