This is the nerve-wracking moment a tourist was knocked over and almost swept away by waves crashing into a sea walkway in China.

The group had ventured across the narrow concrete bridge to observe the amusingly-shaped rock formation before the powerful tide approached coastal Fuding County in Fujian, China, on August 12.

Footage shows a large wave roaring toward the tourists, who ran across a bridge back to the mainland upon seeing the incoming swell.

One of them was struck just as he reached the end of the bridge, but he managed to stay on dry land as the foamy white water receded.

The other tourists were seen also retreating from the cliff after the incident, shaken by the ferocity of the ocean but otherwise unhurt.

The filmer said: 'Out of curiosity, the group of tourists climbed onto the small island, but they did not realise they were in danger as the rising tides covered the bridge, which was their only way back to the land.'
