Protests have taken place in Dublin at an event seen by transgender rights activists as transphobic. Writer Graham Linehan and activist Kellie-Jay Keen-Minshull were among the speakers at the Let Women Speak event in Merrion Square.

Ms Keen-Minshull told people gathered at the event: "No woman has a penis; no man has a vagina; there is no such thing as non-binary; and transitioning children is profound abuse."

Trans protesters gathered nearby, with one woman using a loudspeaker to tell the crowd: "We are a country that voted overwhelmingly for marriage equality, for bodily autonomy, and these people want to reverse that."

Mr Linehan called the transgender rights protesters "thugs" and said he hoped to "expose them for trying to silence women".
