Heavy flood swallowed a road following a monsoon storm in the Philippines.

Footage shows the deluge submerging the street as vehicles battled through the water in Mandaue City, Cebu province, on September 12.

Onlooker Ariel Suquib said flooding in the city has been a perennial problem for residents for decades.

He said: 'I am hoping that there would be a long-term solution for this recurring problem. It's been so long, but we still have to deal with this every year.'

The Philippines and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.

The country is prone to typhoons, with approximately 20 storms entering its monitoring zone annually.
