A helpful elephant moved a fallen tree from a road following a monsoon storm in Thailand.

Footage shows the male jumbo Plai Dan Siam being guided by its mahout as it cleared the obstruction from Highway 1022 in Chiang Rai province on September 16.

Instead of a backhoe, authorities had dispatched the elephant, which came from the nearby Chang Puak elephant camp, to assist in removing the tree causing traffic build-up in the area after it toppled over from heavy rains that night.

Workers swept up the remaining twigs and leaves on the road.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
