STORYLINE:

The 6th International Conference on Financing Investment and Trade in Africa (FITA) kicked off Wednesday in Tunis.

Tunisian Finance Minister Sihem Boughdiri said at the inauguration ceremony on Wednesday that "African populations have the right today to a unified continent that is sufficiently complementary to hope to guarantee sustainable growth."

Addressing around 1,000 Tunisian and African business leaders, the minister assured that her country "has always ensured that it supports its economic and political relations with African countries."

According to the minister, the development of cooperation with African financial institutions, including the African Development Bank and the African Export-Import Bank, will be a most beneficial measure to guarantee access to financing to the public and private sectors.

The two-day event is held under the theme "Africa in the midst of a global crisis and the role of the private sector in sustainable and inclusive economic transformation."

This event is organized by the Tunisian-African Business Council (TABC), which aims to accelerate the achievement of economic complementarity in Africa in addition to strengthening the egalitarian and united partnership between the different countries of the continent.

The President of TABC Anis Jaziri said discussions at the conference will focus on strategic issues in the African economy, including energy, climate and sustainable development, digital transformation, infrastructure, water and food security.
