This is the heartwarming moment heroic neighbours rescued puppies stranded in floods in northeast Thailand.

Good Samaritan Pharunyoo Bunchan came to the dogs' aid as locals were evacuating a submerged village in Ubon Ratchani province on September 17.

Monsoon storms had hit the area and spawned floods that swamped peoples' houses.

The homeowners appeared to have vacated the wooden house to leave for higher ground, but forgot to take the helpless baby dogs with them.

Footage shows the hapless puppies whining as they perched on furniture to escape the knee-high deluge.

Pharunyoo and his companions waded through the flood to pick up the animals and bring them to safety.

He said: 'It would be a tragedy to leave behind the puppies. They would not be able to find their own food or drink. I feel sorry for them. We have taken them to higher ground where they are safe.

'Soon we will try to reunite the puppies with their owner, but it could be they are strays. If we can't find who they belong to, we will take care of them.'

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
