A Thai woman's heavily edited profile picture backfired on her when her would-be date fled upon seeing her actual appearance.

The woman, Som, 32, was excitedly waiting to meet her online suitor in person at a restaurant in Hat Yai, Thailand on September 16.

But when he finally arrived and saw her face, he looked confused then immediately excused himself 'to park his car' before making a hasty exit - ghosting Som ever since.

Som said: 'I know I'm not a supermodel but I didn't think I was so bad that I made people run away. I think I look good for 32. I just use the photo apps with filters to boost my appearance.'

Som said that she had met the guy online, and had sent him a selfie that was heavily modified using an app on her phone.

After two months of chatting, they had agreed to meet up at the restaurant, but the anticipated date ended in an epic failure before it could even start.

Hilarious footage shows Som holding the edited selfie next to her face for a striking side-by-side comparison. The layers of beauty filters had made her eyes appear bigger, her skin look fairer, and her nose look smaller and sharper.

She says in the video: 'When the man arrived, he said he wanted to talk to me for a little bit and then asked what my name was. I replied that my name is Nong Som.

'He asked 'could you take off your face mask?' So, I complied and removed it for him.

'The customer then quickly said 'let me park my car over there first'. So I waited for him. However, it's been two months and he still hasn't returned.'

Despite the bungled date, good-humoured Som was able to laugh off the incident with her friend, who kept her company at the diner.

The friend said: 'She's kind and it's never boring to talk with her. She always has funny stories. Thank you everyone for acknowledging her cuteness.'
