Orthodox Jews on Thursday performed the Tashlich ritual on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea in Ashdod, Israel.

Tashlich is a ceremony performed before Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement. During this ceremony, Jews symbolically cast off their "sins" of the previous year into flowing water.

This year, the Jewish Day of Atonement runs from the sunset of Sept. 24 to the sunset of Sept. 25.
