Commuters ran from the rain as a tropical storm battered a monorail station in Bangkok, Thailand, on Thursday evening.

Locals were on their way home from work on the BTS Skytrain when the monsoon slammed into the capital city causing widespread flash floods on September 21.

The Thai Meteorological Department said in a September 22 advisory that heavy rains were expected in Bangkok and its vicinity, as easterly winds prevail over Thailand's northeast, central, and eastern regions.

Residents, especially those living near foothills and low-lying areas, have been warned of potential flash floods.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
