This is the dramatic moment a detached truck wheel hurtled towards a shop and crashed through its windows.

CCTV footage shows the ghost wheel rolling across the road and then smashing through the windows of a building in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, southern Thailand, on September 23.

Staffd were jolted from their seats as the heavy object shattered the glass and sent sharp shards scattering on the tiled floor.

The shop owner said no employees were hurt as they were seated away from the windows. She said she planned to relocate the employees' workspace farther inside the building following the incident.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
