The World Health Organization (WHO) warned this Monday of the worsening of the health crisis in Sudan and neighboring countries where displaced people from the conflict arrive.

According to the entity's estimates, 400,000 people have fled the brutal military civil war in Sudan during the last five months with consequences on the physical and mental state of the refugees.

The principal advisor of the WHO regional office for Africa, Ramesh Krishnamurthy, warned of the urgency of intensifying interventions in the areas of primary care, mental health, maternal and child care and nutrition.

In a recent examination carried out in Chad, whose eastern area is one of the main destinations for Sudanese, almost 13 thousand children under five years of age were found suffering from acute malnutrition.

A WHO report released by the United Nations showed an increase in hospital admissions of malnourished minors, which rose to more than half in the province of Ouaddai, where nearly 80 percent of refugees from neighboring Sudan arrive.

In that region, the United Nations health agency delivers critical aid to the town of Adré, just a few hundred meters from the border with Sudan.
