Dozens of tourists stood precariously close to the edge of a crumbling chalk cliff at Birling Gap, East Sussex, despite multiple warnings from the local coastguard.

Drone footage shows the group posing for pictures just a few steps away from the 70-foot drop despite warning signs and posters installed by the coastguard.

Several cliff falls have occurred in 2023 seeing parts of the temporary beach closed and warnings increased.

Despite warning signs, posters and occasional patrols by the Coastguard people ignore the perils of the crumbling cliffs. Recent heavy rain has saturated the ground and led to rock falls over the last few days. Only a quarter of a mile away is Beachy Head the infamous suicide spot which is 560ft high at its highest. Sea erosion and rising sea levels has washed most of what remains of the village into the sea. You would have to be very foolhardy to go near the cliff edge which is extremely unstable but tourists, despite the warnings, feel compelled to stand, lean over and take photos and selfies which could very easily be their last.
