Intangible Cultural Heritage - Miao Wax Dyeing.
Batik art, also known as Miao batik art, is a traditional skill passed down in Miao inhabited areas and is one of the national intangible cultural heritages. Wax dyeing is one of the ancient traditional folk printing and dyeing techniques of the Chinese nation. As early as the Qin and Han dynasties, the Miao people had already mastered wax dyeing technology. Gong County Miao batik is unique in Sichuan Miao batik.
According to the Qing Dynasty Guangxu's "Gong County Annals", the Miao people in Luodu melted wax and painted it on cloth. After dyeing, the cloth was boiled and washed with wax, forming a batik skirt. The Miao ethnic batik in Gongxian County mainly uses blue and white as the main tone, and is often combined with cross stitch and patchwork. It is usually dyed first and then embroidered, with rich colors and clear layers, which are both simple and beautiful. The natural and geometric patterns in the pattern are mostly inherited from tradition, while others originate from life and often have multiple meanings. The batik composition is full, the shape is vivid, symmetrical and balanced, and the overall effect of pattern combination and visual order is emphasized. The theme is generally centered, emphasizing the completeness and harmony of the pattern, concise and lively, dense without feeling complicated, and simple without feeling thin. The pattern is exquisite, the lines are smooth, fresh as the light clouds and blue sky complement each other, and the melody is as lively as mountains and flowing water. The simplicity contains roughness, while the simplicity contains elegance, with a distinct national style.
