A German tourist fell to his death while filming the sunset from a beach cliff in Bali, Indonesia.

Maximilian Alexandei Tenzer, 22, climbed the coastal cliff with his girlfriend Selina Herbst, 21, at the idyllic Pura Luhur Srijong Beach in Tabanan on September 26.

The couple had arrived at the tourist spot through an online taxi and were taking selfies and recording the panoramic view at around 5:50 pm.

However, Maximilian, distracted while recording the scenic surroundings, ventured too close to the edge and slipped off the 50ft cliff, cracking his head open on the rocks below.

Horrified Selina called the taxi driver who had dropped them off, and they contacted the police with the help of a nearby resident.

Tabanan Police public relations officer Gusti Made Berata said: 'The victim was found next to the coastal cliff near Pura Luhur Srijong. Because he was not careful, he did not realise that he was on the edge of the cliff, leading to his fall.'

Officers said Maximilian was found dead at the scene lying face-down with his head and ears bleeding.

His body was transported to the Tabanan Hospital for further examination.
