Marin County Fire Dispatch sprang into action following a hand-held GPS emergency activation on the Coastal Trail in California on September 23, 2023.

In response, a collaborative effort involving the National Parks Service, CHP H-30, and a Helicopter Rescue Technician (HRT) from the Marin County Fire was initiated.

CHP H-30 swiftly descended to the GPS location provided, where they lowered the HRT member. Upon reaching the spot, they discovered a female hiker in the midst of a medical emergency. With precision and efficiency, H-30 conducted a daring hoist operation, successfully retrieving both the distressed hiker and the Marin County HRT member.

The rescue mission culminated at the Five Brooks Landing Zone, where the ailing hiker was promptly handed over to a Marin County Fire Ambulance team. The patient was subsequently transported to a local hospital for immediate medical attention. This swift and coordinated response underscores the critical importance of emergency services in safeguarding the well-being of outdoor enthusiasts along the Coastal Trail.
