Firemen battle Porsche on fire on street in China
This dramatic footage shows firefighters battling to extinguish a burning Porsche that had caught fire in the middle of the street.
The silver vehicle was recorded by onlookers as it burned in the middle of an intersection in Chongqing, in south-western China, at around 9 am on September 24.
Several pieces of footage show the lux sedan, reportedly an electric Porsche Taycan SUV worth around 200,000 GBP, being quickly devoured by the blaze that appeared to be spreading to the rear wheels.
Firefighters doused the burning car with a fire extinguisher while other road participants were forced to stand nearby and wait for the danger to be over.
Witnesses at the scene said they were running errands nearby when they suddenly heard a loud noise, followed by thick smoke billowing from the street.
They ran over and saw the silver Porsche burning intensely. Firefighters reportedly managed to put of the fire in 20 minutes. There were no casualties.
A preliminary investigation revealed the fire was caused by a short circuit in the vehicle's engine. It generated sparks which started a fire that quickly spread and then caused an explosion.
Porsche stated that they will verify the situation as the car was said to have suffered extensive damages. The incident remains under further investigation.
