A healthy cow with five legs has become a personal lucky charm for its superstitious owner in Thailand.

The two-year-old female named 'Ha' was adopted by local woman Noo, 79, when it was just a young calf.

Noo said she had traded a fighting cock for the mutant calf, whose previous owner believed she would die and hesitated to keep her because of the extra limb growing from the shoulder.

Today, the energetic bovine lives on Noo's farm in northeastern Nakhon Ratchasima province - healthy and able despite the fifth leg dangling from its shoulder.

Noo claimed that the cow had brought her good fortune, saying she had often won lottery prizes worth thousands of baht since adopting it.

She said: 'People have been offering to buy the cow from me for as much as one million baht (27,200 USD). I have very little money, but I have refused all of them. I love my cow not just because she is lucky, but because I've been raising her since she was little.'

In February, a five-legged cow shocked motorists who spotted it spotted walking toward a temple in Songkhla province.

While in January 2022, a male calf named 'Lucky' with an extra leg jutting out from its torso was born at a farm in Trang.

In July 2021, a healthy female cow named Jao Ha in Prachin Buri became a local attraction with a tiny extra limb sticking out of her front leg.

The cows are believed to have a genetic disorder called polymelia which is caused by improper cell division during conception.

A 2002 study stated that the condition is extremely uncommon among cattle having inflicted only one cattle in every 100,000.
