Fields and homes were swamped when water gushed through a soil embankment that was eroded by floods in Thailand.

Heavy rains had hit Prachinburi province around 100 miles east of Bangkok, causing a reservoir to overflow and surge through the man-made mound keeping the water at bay.

Footage shows the flood cascading through a breach in the soil wall, which gradually became larger as the flood surged through.

The torrent poured into low-lying areas and submerged a field and houses nearby on September 27.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.

Bangkok and large parts of the north and northeast of the country have been swamped with flash floods from tropical thunderstorms.
