Wild Asian elephants break into homes in food hunt in China
Two wild Asian elephants broke into a resident's house, wandering back and forth in the yard in southwestern China.
The CCTV footage was filmed in Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province on September 28.
The homeowner attempted to ward off the elephants with a flashlight and the family dog barked frenziedly at a distance, reluctant to approach.
The homeowner revealed this marked the second time this year his household had been visited by these gigantic neighbours, the first encounter taking place in June.
Fortunately, the elephants simply helped themselves to some food before leaving, causing no major damage except to the front door.
It is understood that compensation will be provided for losses incurred due to wild elephants, as disclosed by the local departments.
Asian elephants, the largest existing terrestrial animals in Asia, are listed as an Endangered Species (EN) by the IUCN.
The video was provided by local media with permission.
