SOUNDBITE (Hungarian): GYORGY MATOLCSY, Governor of National Bank of Hungary (MNB)
"In the past 10 years, the BRI was a straightforward success, a clear success. The first 10 years were a very good foundation that provided the infrastructure and also provided the opportunity for a lot of countries to build their first roads, rail lines, ports and harbors towards other countries. These 10 years have been about infrastructure development and also the development of economic and financial ties."
The central bank chief made the remarks at a seminar marking the 10th anniversary of the BRI co-organized by the Chinese Embassy in Hungary and the MNB on Monday.
He said Hungary is the first European country to sign a BRI cooperation agreement with China. Budapest will continue to pursue its "Opening to the East" policy and will align it closely with the BRI to promote Eurasian cooperation and achieve mutual benefits and win-win results.
