Road tunnels were swamped by floods as heavy rain lashed Thailand.

The underpass linking the Thap Lan and Khao Yai national parks in Prachinburi province was submerged in water following two days of continuous rainfall on September 28.

Authorities said the flood rose to about five feet, prompting them to close the affected section on Highway 304 and re-route drivers. The deluge from the parks was reported to have spilled over onto several nearby villages.

The tunnel was officially opened on March 9, 2019. Small shrubs had been planted and artifical ponds placed above the structure to attract wild animals.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.

Bangkok and large parts of the north and northeast of the country have been swamped with flash floods from tropical thunderstorms.
