STORYLINE:
China's fastest sea-crossing high-speed rail started operation on Thursday in east China's Fujian Province, featuring advanced technology and intelligence.
With a designed speed of 350 km/h, the Fuzhou-Xiamen-Zhangzhou high-speed railway slashes travel time between Fuzhou and Xiamen, an economic hub and tourist hotspot in the province, to just under an hour.
The fastest train trip used to take around 1 hour and 20 minutes.
SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): CHEN QING, Passenger
"A 'one-hour living area' encompassing Fuzhou and Xiamen makes life and work more convenient. And the scenery along the way is also exceptionally beautiful."
The railway traverses three coastal bays -- Quanzhou Bay, Meizhou Bay and Anhai Bay -- via sea-crossing bridges.
The construction of the three sea-crossing bridges has successfully conquered challenges posed by the unfavorable natural environment.
SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): LI PINGZHUO, Project manager of China Railway Siyuan Survey and Design Group Co., Ltd.
"In the construction of the bridges, we have adopted wind-resistant design and corrosion-resistant design, which can improve the durability of the bridges and make the journey safer and more comfortable."
The railway also features various intelligent technologies, including the Internet of Things, edge computing and geographic information system.
SOUNDBITE 3 (Chinese): LIU YANG, Chief engineer of the Fuzhou South Station Project of China Railway Construction Engineering Group
"The station uses an intelligent lighting system. It can adjust the lights automatically in accordance with the actual lighting conditions in different hours of the day. With intelligent operation, we don't need manual control anymore."
Meanwhile, the Fuxing trains running on the line offer a high level of comfort.
All seats are equipped with charging ports, while seats in business class cabins have intelligent touch-screen control panels.
