Glowing streams of lava poured from the Mayon Volcano as it erupted in the Philippines.

Footage shows molten material gushing from the summit crater of the 'perfect cone' volcano on June 24.

Mayon, the country's most active volcano, had sparked the evacuation of more than 18,000 people when it rumbled with activity in June.

State volcanologists have hoisted Alert Level 3 indicating a 'high level of unrest' over Mayon Volcano.

Philippine seismological agency PHIVOLCS said in an October 1 advisory that the alert is maintained as a slow effusion of lava was observed in the past 24 hours.

Three volcanic earthquakes, 123 rockfall events, and three pyroclastic density currents or fast-moving mixtures of volcanic matter and gas were also recorded.

Despite the continued seismic activity, some 2,000 residents outside the volcano's six-kilometre permanent danger zone have opted to return to their homes, the provincial safety office reported.

The Philippines is an archipelago of more than 7,000 islands inside the Pacific 'Ring of Fire' where the majority of Earth's volcano eruptions and earthquakes happen.
