STORYLINE:

Indonesian Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said in an exclusive interview with Xinhua that the construction of the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway (HSR) is a good learning opportunity for Indonesia, expecting more cooperation with China in the transportation sector in the future. 

As a landmark project under the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative, the Jakarta-Bandung HSR is the first overseas high-speed railway project that fully uses Chinese railway systems, technology, and industrial components.

"If we talk about the Jakarta-Bandung HSR, why does it become our goal or development plan?
I think it's a very strategic technology that can, on the one hand, build connectivity, but on the other hand, give us opportunities to learn. 
There is a technological leap that we are doing. 
When why it comes to China, of course, we see that in terms of quantity as well as quality in China, it develops rapidly. 
The process of technology transfer carried out by China, in the end, can complete to a high specification.
This became a basis for us to choose China. 
In fact, in all transportation sectors, there are examples that China has given us.
We hope that this collaboration will be intensive so that we can learn and give."

The Jakarta-Bandung HSR connects Indonesia's capital Jakarta and West Java's provincial capital Bandung.

With a design speed of 350 km per hour, the railway spanning 142.3 km will cut the journey between the two cities from over three hours to around 40 minutes.
