Thousands of ladybirds covering a cliff looked like a huge wall of blackberry and raspberry Pick-and-Mix sweets.

The thick clusters of dominantly black and red insect swarms resembling chewy gums from the Cheshire-based candymaker were discovered by a hiker who was exploring the countryside in Chiang Mai province, Thailand, on September 17.

Footage shows the bugs gathered in clumps like sugary fruits sticking out of the massive 50ft-tall rock formation, with several others found in stems of plants and ground below.

Tourist Kanniga Sakorn held a cluster she found on a weed, and immediately, the red, black, and orange ladybugs crawled across her hand.

She said: 'It felt like there was hundreds and thousands, maybe even millions of them. I've never seen anything like it before. It was really unusual.'

Ladybugs gather in a swarm when the cold season approaches, looking for a warm place to stay in the winter. Swarms can be very large, with thousands or even millions of ladybugs congregating in a single area.
