Wave on flooded road smashes into locals in Manila
A powerful wave on a flooded road smashed into locals during a storm in Manila, the Philippines.
Footage shows the surge of water rushing toward motorists and vendors on a sidewalk in Valenzuela City amid heavy rainfall on October 1.
A passing bus had triggered the large ripple, which knocked down parked motorcycles and a vendor's stall.
Drivers were seen struggling to drag their vehicles through the thigh-deep deluge, while pedestrians were left stranded inside a restaurant as they waited for the flood to subside.
An onlooker said: 'It only rained for 15 minutes, but the water rose so quickly. There were several motorcycles that toppled over. They were left soaking in the flood since their drivers were not in the area.'
The Philippines and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
