Residents remained on high alert as Taal Volcano continued to spew gas in the Philippines on Tuesday.

Video shows gas plumes escaping from the volcano's vents amid overcast skies in Batangas province on October 3.

Classes in the nearby town of Tuy had been suspended on Monday, October 2, due to the threat of smog.

State seismological agency PHIVOLCS said in an advisory today that the volcano is still on Alert Level 1, indicating low-level unrest.

PHIVOLCS logged one volcanic tremor, weak gas emission, and 300-metre plumes within a 24-hour period. It warned of possible threats such as steam-driven eruptions, minor ashfall, and lethal accumulations of toxic gas.

The Philippines is an archipelago of more than 7,000 islands inside the Pacific 'Ring of Fire' where the majority of Earth's volcano eruptions and earthquakes happen.
