A Bangkok airport ground worker has been arrested for allegedly molesting a 15-year-old boy in an airport toilet on 27 September.

The 43-year-old man, Sukkasem Cherdchu, is accused of sexually abusing the unnamed teenager who had asked him for assistance at Suvarnabhumi International Airport, the Thai capital's main international airport.

The suspect allegedly told the teenager his baggage was overweight and it would incur dreaded extra charges unless he followed him to the bathroom to sort through the items.

The attack is said to have walked the boy near the airport's Gate B 8 of the domestic passenger building to wait for a shuttle, before allegedly dragging him into a bathroom stall to molest him.

He reportedly threatened the boy into silence, then helped him board his flight to Krabi province, where the abuse was reported to police.

The alleged victim's mum, 46, filed complaints with the Krabi Police and Suvarnabhumi Airport Police, and an arrest warrant for Sukkasem was issued by the Samut Prakan Provincial Court.

Police Captain Phongkasem Chaturongsak, an investigator of the airport police, said Sukkasem was arrested at an apartment block in Bangkok's Lat Krabang area near the airport on September 30.

Footage shows the accused being hauled to the police station while wearing a jacket over his head and refusing to answer questions from reporters.

Lieutenant Colonel Jakrapong Nuchpadung, superintendent of the Suvarnabhumi Airport, said that on the day of the incident, the boy had asked Sukkasem for help as it was his first time flying alone to meet his mum in Krabi province.

However, Sukkasem allegedly lured the youngster into a bathroom by saying his luggage was overweight and needed to be checked. The ground worker was then said to have had oral sex with the frightened boy whose pleas for him to stop went ignored.

Sukkasem claimed the act had been consensual and that the teen did not resist even when someone else had entered the bathroom.

Lieutenant Colonel Jakrapong said Sukkasem will be charged for committing indecent acts on a person over 15 but under 18 years old by using threats or violent acts, and for taking a minor over 15 but under 18 years old away from their parents.

Sukkasem was detained at the airport police station for further questioning.
