A woman inadvertently set off an uncontrollable blaze after attempting to use a lighter to ignite the decor in a restaurant in northern China.

The CCTV footage was filmed in Taiyuan City in Shanxi Province on September 29.

Eyewitnesses reported that the woman used a lighter to ignite a decorative item within the establishment. To her shock and dismay, the flames quickly spiralled out of control, engulfing the entire wall's decorations.

In a state of panic, she began to hurriedly pack up her belongings, seemingly preparing to make a hasty exit.

A young man at a nearby table, in an act of quick thinking, attempted to douse the flames with table water. However, his efforts proved to be in vain as the fire continued to rage.

Fortunately, swift action by other staff members on duty ensured that the blaze was quickly put out, averting a potentially more dangerous situation.

Fortunately, no one was reported injured. According to the woman, she was just curious to see if these reed-like decorations would burn, and she didn't expect it to suddenly get out of control.

A spokesperson for the hotpot restaurant later confirmed that the police had been alerted and were already conducting their investigations.

The video was provided by local mieda with permission.
